On 23th, March, 2023, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released the latest Energy Star Embedded Luminaire V1.0 Specification, intended to replace the existing Energy Star Luminaire V2.2 version for embedded luminaires and embedded retrofit kits. This means that the EPA continues to Energy Star-certify this type of product by establishing new regulations, with higher light efficiency requirements for products than the original specification but without breaking the existing performance requirements. The final V1.0 version will be released in 2023, and before 31st, December, 2023, customers can opt for either the existing V2.2 standard or the new V1.0 standard for Energy Star certification; after 31st, December, 2023, all newly applied Energy Star certified embedded luminaires and embedded retrofit kits must follow the V1.0 standard for certification, and products certified with V2.2 to meet the new standard requirements do not require additional testing.
Compared to the existing luminaire V2.2 standard, the new Energy Star Embedded Luminaire V1.0 Specification does not include surface mounted and suspended luminaires and other types of luminaires, with light efficiency requirements of 90lm/W and power factor requirements greater than or equal to 0.7. The new test method uses the latest version of ANSI/IES TM-21-21 calculation table to increase the market color temperature range to 2200K and 2500K, and for adjustable color and multilight output gear products, all tests and evaluations are performed at the maximum power white light gear instead of the least efficient white light gear. In addition, brands that have not re-obtained New Standard V1.0 certification will remove all Energy Star related information from websites and promotional material by 31st, December, 2024.
LISUN LPCE-2 Integrating Sphere System LED Testing instruments are for single LEDs and LED lighting products light measurement. LED’s quality should be tested by checking its photometric, colorimetric and electrical parameters. According to CIE 177, CIE84, CIE-13.3, IES LM-79-19, Optical-Engineering-49-3-033602, COMMISSION DELEGATED REGULATION (EU) 2019/2015, IESNA LM-63-2, IES-LM-80 and ANSI-C78.377, it recommends to using an array spectroradiometer with an integrating sphere system to test SSL products.

In conclusion
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released the latest Energy Star Embedded Luminaire V1.0 Specification on 23th, March, 2023, with the certification requirements now more stringent than the existing V2.2 standard, thus increasing the efficiency of the luminaire and eliminating some inferior luminaire types, bringing more efficient lighting products to customers. Brands without Energy Star V1.0 standard certification will also need to remove their Energy Star related information from websites and promotional material by 31st, December, 2024, so it is clear that Energy Star V1.0 standard brings a new challenge to the market development.
