The Effect of EMI Receiver Testing on EMI Receivers

With the development of science and technology, more and more digital, high-speed electrical and electronic equipment are widely used in all fields of society. While promoting social development, electromagnetic interference generated by the application of electrical and electronic equipment also brings electromagnetic pollution to society. Electromagnetic pollution, together with water pollution and air pollution, is known as the three major pollution sources of today’s society. With the increasingly prominent problem of electromagnetic interference, the International Special Committee on Radio Interference (CISPR) has issued CISPR -16, CISPR-15, and the European Standardization Committee has issued EN55015 and EN55022. These measures and standards are designed to regulate the electromagnetic interference restriction of point electronic products and other specifications in order to reduce the social problems caused by electromagnetic interference.

LISUN EMI receiver system for EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) radiation conduction or conducted emissions testing. The EMI-9KB EMI receiver is made of full closure structure and strong electro-conductibility material, which has high shielding effect. Due to the new technology for the EMI Test System, it solved the instrument self-EMI problem. The test results are according to the international format test report. The EMI Test System EMI-9KB fully meets CISPR15:2018CISPR16-1GB17743, FCC, EN55015 and EN55022.

Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) is divided into two types: conductive interference and radiation interference. Conductive interference refers to the coupling (interference) of a signal on an electrical network to another electrical network through a conductive medium. Radiation interference refers to the interference source coupling (interference) its signal to another electrical network through space. In high-speed PCB and system design, the high-frequency signal lines, the pins of integrated circuits, all kinds of connectors, etc. may become radiation interference sources with antenna characteristics, which can emit electromagnetic waves and affect the normal work of other systems or other subsystems within the system. As we all know, the test target of EMC is electronic appliances, and lighting equipment as an important part of it naturally has corresponding constraints. Such as the FCC certification in the United States, the CE certification in the European Union and other countries have put forward relevant test items for LED lighting equipment. When talking about electromagnetic interference, there are generally two sources of interference. One is conductive interference. Mainly the interference signals generated by electronic equipment interfere with each other through conductive media or public power lines. The FCC certification of LED lamps’conductive interference scan test frequency starts from 0.15MHz and ends at 30MHz. The conductive interference scan test frequency of CE certification starts from 9KHz and ends at 30MHz. the other kind of interference is radiation interference. Mainly refers to the interference signals generated by electronic equipment, couples (interference) the interference signals to another electrical network or electronic equipment through space. The radiation interference scan test frequency of LED lamps’FCC certification starts from 30MHz and ends at 1GHz, and the radiation interference scan test frequency of CE certification starts from 30KHz and ends at 300MHz.

In the lighting industry, there are two methods for EMI testing in the wavelength of 9KHz-30MHz, one is the use of antenna and EMI receiver, which is based on the standard of CISPR15, EN55015, GB17743. For low-frequency magnetic field equipment that may be generated by lighting fixtures, three-loop antenna should be used to measure its low-frequency magnetic field radiation interference according to CISPR16-1-4. It is mainly tested by three-loop antenna and EMI receiver, and the test needs to be conducted in the shielded room. Note: The three-loop antenna converts the low-frequency magnetic field components in the X, Y and Z directions into RF signals and transmits them to the EMI receiver through the coaxial switch in three channels for measurement; the other is LISN test method, which needs to be measured by EMI receiver + artificial power network + LISN and test software. The conductive interference test system is used to measure the interference generated by the power port of the lamp and lighting equipment in normal working condition. The LISN achieves the isolation, sampling, impedance matching of RF signals, and provides electric channel for the EUT. The EMI receiver measures the RF signal and finally analyzes, processes and judges by the EMI test software. The test needs to be carried out in the shielded room.

At the same time, CDN method is adopted in EMI test in the waveband of 9KHz-300MHz. Another radiation electric field disturbance testing method for lighting equipment is also provided in the standards of CISPR15, EN55015 and GB17743, that is, CDN common-mode terminal voltage method. The CDN method mainly includes EMI receiver, CDN, and attenuator. The test can be done in the shielded room. For EMI test, the International Special Committee on Radio Interference (CISPR) issued the CISPR-16 Specification for Radio Disturbance and Immunity Measuring Apparatus, while for the lighting industry, CISPR proposed the CISPR-15 Specification for Radio Disturbance Characteristics of Electronic Lighting and Related Equipment and Measuring Methods. Each country has also promulgated all kinds of EMI lighting testing specifications according to its own conditions, such as EN55015-2007 issued by the EU and GB17743-1999 issued by China. For EU member countries, EN55015 standard (referring to CISPR-15) is applicable to traditional lighting equipment with frequency exceeding 100 Hz, such as incandescent lamps, fluorescent lamps, self-rectifying energy-saving lamps, etc. Generally, the frequency of such equipment does not exceed 30MHz, corresponding to the radiation interference limit table 1. However, for the emerging LED lighting industry, the frequency is usually more than 30MHz, and the scanning frequency is clearly proposed in CE certification from 30MHz to 300MHz.
