A Study on the Performance of Vibration Generator and Electrodynamic Vibration Test System

Vibration exciters used in vibration laboratories are vibration generators. When selecting vibration generators, suitable types should be selected according to the test frequency range. Electro-hydraulic vibration test system are suitable for the medium and low frequency range, electric tables are suitable for medium and high frequency range, and the vibration frequency of mechanical tables is limited. In addition, the size of thrust, the quality of waveform, and the convenience of control should also be taken into consideration.

Mechanical vibration test system are the earliest used and cheapest vibration generator. Their working frequency range is narrow, and usually only sine vibration tests can be carried out, and the upper limit working frequency is about 100 Hz. It can be used for transportation simulation table and vibration tests of motor-driven vehicles simulating road travel, but the accuracy is not high. It is still used in many laboratories and is an economical and practical vibration test system.

Electro-hydraulic vibration test system are devices for producing low to medium frequency vibrations. It can be from 0 to 250Hz, and even up to 1000Hz and above. It has a large thrust, direct bearing capacity and good waveform, and can complete sine, random and mixed mode vibration tests, which is especially suitable for low frequency large displacement vibration tests. Its main technical indicators include: peak thrust depends on the area of the hydraulic pressure and the cylinder; root mean square thrust depends on the hydraulic pressure and cylinder area; maximum speed depends on the flow rate of the servo valve; maximum displacement depends on the stroke of the actuator. The performance of electro-hydraulic vibration test system depends on the quality of the oil source, with its core part being electro-hydraulic servo valves, whose flow-frequency response can directly determine the upper frequency limit of the vibration generator.

Electrodynamic vibration test system are the most commonly used vibration generator types, with a wide frequency range and can achieve thrusts from 10N to 200kN, sine, random and impact tests, and their waveform is the best in vibration tables. The technical indicators for measuring performance of electrodynamic vibration test system include: sine peak thrust, random root mean square thrust, unloaded maximum acceleration, unloaded maximum speed, maximum displacement, working frequency range and maximum uncompensated bearing capacity, and power amplifiers also have some technical indicators. The electric vibration table system can be selected according to the test requirements, and the power amplifier and the thrust of the table body of different series products can be provided by the manufacturer.

Vibration generator are mechanical, electric and electro-hydraulic devices used for sine fixed frequency and sine sweep frequency tests, of which the working frequency range and thrust as well as carrying capacity are slightly different. For low frequency large amplitude vibration or road transportation environment simulation, electro-hydraulic test system are recommended; for tests with lower frequency and no need for large amplitude vibration, mechanical vibration generators should b taken into consideration.

Many vibration generator can provide sine peak thrust and random root mean square thrust, but how to estimate the random root mean square thrust of some domestic or old vibration generators is also a factor to be considered when initially launching random vibration tests. Three types of vibration generators can be used in sine fixed frequency and sine sweep frequency tests, but according to the required vibration range, function and thrust, mechanical, electric and electro-hydraulic vibration generators should be properly selected, and attention should be paid to the structure and weight of the table top, as well as the estimation of random root mean square thrust provided by the vibration generators.
