ESD Simulator Gun for conducting ESD Simulations

Introduction

Electrostatic discharge simulator is a precision high voltage instrument. The internal design of the equipment has a protection mechanism. But for safety, do not use it in high humidity and high temperature environments.

All grounding terminals of the system shall be grounded. Do not touch the electrode of the ESD gun with your hand, after the instrument is powered on to prevent the electric shock.

ESD Simulator Gun for conducting ESD Simulations

ESD61000-2_Electrostatic Discharge Simulator

The accessories include

•  ESD gun
•  Contact discharge and air discharge electrodes
•  Electrostatic brush
•  Grounding line

Standard resistance and capacity suits have been installed in the ESD simulator. If you need other parameters of resistance and capacity suits, according to the special requirements of different industries. The carton also contains the product certificate, warranty card and CD. The CD contains the PDF version of the user manual and relevant standards.
Optional accessories include
•  Vertical coupling plate
•   ESD gun holder

According to the standard IEC 61000-4-2, the standard environment for ESD testing is shown. Metal plate on the floor with good grounding, wooden table, and metal plate on the table. The vertical coupling plate is used for the final product test.

Working Environment of ESD Simulator

The working environment is as follows:
Relative humidity: 30%~60%
Temperature: 10~35 degree centigrade
Atmospheric pressure: 86~106KPa

Installation of ESD simulator

•  Arrange the equipment and accessories according to the position as described.
•  Connect the grounding line to the metal plate on the floor.
•  Connect the metal plate on the table to the metal plate on the floor using the grounding line.
•  Install the discharge gun and unplug the bolt.
•  Turn the discharge gun, groove up and insert.
•  Then, release the bolt.
•  The green wire of the discharge gun is for grounding. Clamp the clip to the metal plate on the ground.
•  Install the electrode to the discharge gun.
•  Now, connect the power cord.
•  You can apply a USB mouse into this port for easier control of touch screen programs. This port ( RS-232) is an alternate port and no connection is required.
•  It is ready for electrostatic discharge test after the system is connected.
•  First, we do the contact discharge test.
•  Install the conical contact discharge electrode.
•  Turn on the instrument, set the polarity and the voltage.
•  Set here if you want to change the polarities automatically during the test. Now, set the interval.
•  Set the test times.
•  Set ”Discharge mode” to ”Contact”.
•  There are three trigger modes : Repeat, Single and 20 PPS.
•  Click on ”Start’.
•  Pick up the discharge gun and pull the trigger. And do the contact discharge test. The screen displays the real time progress of the test.
•  If the trigger mode is ”repeat”, pull the trigger.
•  And then the instrument will test continuously according to the interval. If the trigger mode is ”single”.
•  The instrument will only perform one test for each trigger. If the trigger mode is ”20 PPS”.
•  The instrument will test at a rate of 20 times per second. Change the electrode to spherical air discharge electrode.
•  There is only one trigger mode for the air discharge test ”SINGLE”. You only need to change the discharge mode to ”air discharge”.
•  After doing this, we can do the air discharge test.
•  The operation of the ESD gun will be a little different.
•  Pull the trigger first, and then make the electrode touch the sample and leave.
•  After gently brushing the sample surface with the electrostatic brush, perform the next discharge test.
•  Vertical coupling plate is used for the final product test.
•  The vertical coupling plate is connected to the ground metal plate through two 470KOhm resistors.
•  Place the sample on one side of the coupling plate.
•  Choose the discharge electrode and set the contact discharge mode.
•  Then, perform the contact discharge test on the coupling plate.
•  Make sure that the program is not in the test tube. Then, turn off the instrument.

Maintenance methods

•  If the ESD simulator fails to boot, click the fuse at the power socket.
•  If the fuse is not damaged, please open the equipment carefully and check whether the varistors are burnt on the other side of the power socket.
•  The fuse and the varistors are used to protect the instrument.
•  If there is a problem with the power supply, the fuse or the varistors may be burned.
•  Please ensure the stability of the power supply of the instrument.
•  If necessary, you can also buy LISUN’s regulated AC power supply.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can you define an ESD test?

video

Electric or electronic equipment circuits get damaged because of the static electricity generated by the human body to an object or between the two objects. The ESD generator is designed for the withstanding ESD performance measurement in order to access the electrical and electronic equipment. ESD 61000-2/ ESD 61000-2A comprises an LCD touch screen in both languages; ENGLISH and CHINESE.

What is the use of an ESD simulator?

An Electric Discharge Simulator is a highest electrostatic voltage that can be up to 30 KV. It is enough to cover the most severe standard grade of an electrostatic voltage requirement. The ESD test gun is used in the electrical and electronic equipment for conduction of an electrostatic discharge test. We can also use it for ensuring the compatibility and reproducibility of the test being conducted.
