In any high voltage and electrical noise system, ESD immunity is an important aspect of EMC and a key consideration in the selection of current isolation devices. ESD can penetrate the electrical isolation system It does not involve protective devices on printed circuit boards. The International Standard IEC 61000-4-2 specifies this system level immunity In the typical operation and application environment of the end user, the charged human body introduces the discharge behavior into the system through metal tools ESD certification requires contact discharge up to 8000v, so the resulting fault can be either soft functional or physical damage This is different from the component level of ESD manikin, in which the discharge event of charged human body is to discharge through the skin to the component IC in a controlled environment produced and assembled in the factory The voltage required for ESD certification of manikin is low, and the fault type is hard leakage or physical damage.
Introduction to ESD test:
When a charged object contacts another object with different potentials, the charge between the two objects is balanced The voltage V (T) and current I (T) transients when this happens are shown in the figure below. The amplitude and waveform of the transients depend on the voltage difference and total impedance in the current path Pulses will be induced and may produce signals that may affect nearby electronic circuits.
If the discharge current through the product attempts to take a path including the air gap, a secondary discharge may occur in the equipment The voltage on the gap increases until the gap fails.
ESD test in accordance with IEC 61000-4-2
IEC 61000-4-2 is the standard for immunity ESD test It applies a defined current waveform at the specified voltage level of a handheld generator called an ESD gun.
It uses a capacitor provided by a high-voltage power supply, and its charging voltage is discharged to the ground through a series impedance through the contact point Two discharge methods are used, which are contact discharge and air discharge:
ESD test – contact discharge
In the contact discharge method, the stress can be directly applied to the EUT or the coupling plane adjacent to the EUT Before each test pulse, the capacitor is charged to the required level, but its voltage is maintained on the probe of the generator through the vacuum relay.
Apply the probe to the EUT or a suitably selected point on the coupling plane Then trigger the generator to close the relay contact, and the capacitor voltage is applied to the EUT through the probe.
When the voltage is discharged through the combined series impedance of the generator, EUT and ground plane, this will generate a current pulse The number of times required to repeat the action at the appropriate polarity and level in each position.
ESD test – air discharge
The same generator is used for the air discharge method, but has a round rather than a sharp probe tip The capacitor is charged to the required level as described above, but the voltage is now continuously applied to the probe, which is far away from the eut.
For each test pulse, the tip is cleverly raised to the selected point on the EUT until it contacts Just before that, the air gap between the tip and EUT will be broken down and the discharge current will flow, which is limited by the combined series impedance, air gap, EUT and return path of the generator as mentioned above.
Similarly, repeat the required number of times at each position with the appropriate polarity and level.
In the test items of the solar lights test report, it is required to test the electromagnetic compatibility of the solar lights : Battery compatibility this test item mainly tests its immunity to transmission disturbance, magnetic induction current radiation, harmonic current, electrostatic discharge, surge and vibration wave.
Therefore, LISUN lauchedESD simulator guns (Electrostatic Discharge Generator/Electrostatic Gun/ESD Guns) is in full compliance with IEC 61000-4-2, EN61000-4-2, ISO10605, GB/T17626.2, GB/T17215.301 and GB/T17215.322.
What is a ESD test?
The static electricity generated by the human body to the object or between two objects may cause the electrical and electronic equipment circuits to malfunction or even be damaged. The ESD generator is designed for the withstanding ESD performance measurement for the assessment of electrical and electronic equipment. ESD61000-2/ESD61000-2A has a LCD touch screen in both English and Chinese.
What is an esd simulator gun used for?
Electrostatic discharge simulator is highest electrostatic voltage can be up to 30 kv, which is enough to cover the most severe standard grade of electrostatic voltage requirement (the voltage requirements of the grade 4 air discharge electrostatic is 15 KV). The ESD test gun can be used for the most of electrical and electronic equipment for electrostatic discharge test, and also can ensure comparability and reproducibility of test.
