Why you need an ESD gun

How is ESD static electricity generated?
Due to external effects such as friction or in the form of various energies such as kinetic energy, potential energy, thermal energy, chemical energy, etc., the positive and negative electricity of atoms will be unbalanced. Friction in daily life is essentially a process of continuous contact and separation. In some cases, static electricity can be generated without friction, such as induction electrostatic electrification, thermoelectric and piezoelectric electrification, Helmholtz layer, jet electrification, etc. Any two objects of different materials can generate static electricity as long as they are separated after contact. Of course, the flowing air can generate static electricity. Why does flowing air generate static electricity? Because air is also composed of atoms, it can be said that static electricity can be generated at any time and any place in people’s lives.

What is an electrostatic gun?
Electrostatic gun means that the air ion gun body is made of reinforced plastic with high durability and has the effect of removing electricity and dust. The ion air gun has the function of air strengthening and can effectively exert the dust removal effect. The tip of the air gun is fan-shaped, and the air nozzle can be used separately according to the shape of the product. The electrostatic gun is also the electrostatic immunity (ESD) test equipment in EMC.

What are the ESD tests?
1. Air discharge / contact discharge air discharge is mainly aimed at the gap parts around the prototype (such as the periphery of the cabinet, USB interface, MIC, REC, speak, LCD periphery, keys). Round gun head is used for air discharge; Contact discharge mainly refers to the discharge of exposed metal parts around the prototype (such as electroplating keys and metal ornaments), and the sharp gun head for contact discharge.

2. Vertical coupling discharge (air): during vertical isolation discharge, put the mobile phone on the vertical plate near the ground, and then discharge the gun head of the electrostatic gun to the vertical coupling plate. Adjust the voltage as described above.

3. Horizontal coupling discharge (air) horizontal coupling discharge place the prototype at a position parallel to the horizontal coupling plate, and use the gun head of the electrostatic gun to discharge the horizontal coupling. The voltage regulation is the same as that described above, and the operation is the same.

Why does ESD test use round gun head for air discharge and sharp gun head for contact discharge?
It is the principle of tip discharge. Of course, contact discharge is the discharge of contact EUT. At this time, charging means discharging. There is basically no loss, no matter how large the charge is, no matter how large the discharge is. The tip discharge is used; Air discharge is different. When charging, you should quickly approach the EUT for discharge. If you use a tip, you will lose a lot of voltage before you approach the EUT. Therefore, for example, if you do 8Kv air discharge, you may not get 6kV. Using a round head discharge gun can reduce the loss of electrostatic voltage, because the loss of the tip is faster.

LISUN lauchedESD simulator guns (Electrostatic Discharge Generator/Electrostatic Gun/ESD Guns) is in full compliance with IEC 61000-4-2EN61000-4-2ISO10605, GB/T17626.2, GB/T17215.301 and GB/T17215.322.

ESD61000-2_Electrostatic Discharge Simulator

What is a ESD test?
The static electricity generated by the human body to the object or between two objects may cause the electrical and electronic equipment circuits to malfunction or even be damaged. The ESD generator is designed for the withstanding ESD performance measurement for the assessment of electrical and electronic equipment. ESD61000-2/ESD61000-2A has a LCD touch screen in both English and Chinese.

What is an esd simulator gun used for?
Electrostatic discharge simulator is highest electrostatic voltage can be up to 30 kv, which is enough to cover the most severe standard grade of electrostatic voltage requirement (the voltage requirements of the grade 4 air discharge electrostatic is 15 KV). The ESD test gun can be used for the most of electrical and electronic equipment for electrostatic discharge test, and also can ensure comparability and reproducibility of test.
