How does goniophotometer measures?

Goniophotometer is a device used to measure the light distribution performance of lamps. Goniophotometer measures the spatial light intensity distribution of lamps or light sources, total luminous flux and lamp efficiency and other parameters.

Goniophotometer need to work in larger darkroom. Use low-reflectivity materials in the room to avoid reflected light from entering the probe. Depending on the arrangement of the measuring light path, two measurement schemes can be used to measure the luminous flux: the illuminance integral method and the luminous intensity integral method.

1. Illuminance integral method. There is no limit to the measurement distance, and the required measurement space is small. As long as the illuminance can be measured, an accurate total luminous flux can be obtained even if the distance is short.

2. Light intensity integration method. The light intensity integration method for goniophotometer measures the light intensity distribution of the light source in the space, and integrates the whole space to obtain the total luminous flux. To measure the light intensity distribution, a sufficient distance is required. The measured object can be regarded as a point light source, and the light intensity can be measured using the inverse square of the distance.

Goniophotometers are mainly divided into several types: rotating lamps, rotating detectors, and fixed lamps:
1. Luminaire rotating Goniophotometer:
1.1. During the test, the detector is fixed, the lamp is installed horizontally, and the lamp rotates around its own horizontal axis and vertical axis.
1.2. After measuring the illuminance value, calculate the light intensity value according to the distance from the light source to the detector.

2. LM-79 Moving Detector Goniophotometer (Mirror Type C):
2.1. During the test, the luminaire rotates around the vertical axis in the lighted state, the reflector rotates around the horizontal axis, and the synchronization axis will synchronously rotate in the opposite direction. The synchronous rotation of the luminaire and the reflector can be measured in any horizontal or vertical angle without tilting the luminaire. The detector is located in a fixed position with a limited metering distance in front of the reflector to collect light from all directions.
2.2. After measuring the illuminance value, calculate the light intensity value according to the distance between the light source and the detector.

3. Circular motion reflector distribution photometer:
3.1. During the test, the lamp lights up and maintains a fixed position, the near-field detector and the reflector move together, and the far-field detector and the reflector move synchronously. The detector will always directly collect the light from the luminaire.
3.2. After the illuminance value is measured, the light intensity value is calculated according to the distance between the light source and the detector.
