When it comes to measuring the coating, many geometries are used, each of which is determined by the particular surface type that is being evaluated. Metals, in general, have a higher reflective quality and their optical properties are less influenced by viewing angle.

Types of Gloss Meters:
It is essential to determine the precise angle of operation in order to compute and achieve the highest possible accuracy. There are three primary varieties of Gloss Meters available on the market today. These include devices with a single angle of 60 degrees, devices that combine angles of 20 degrees and 60 degrees, and a device that combines angles of 20 degrees, 60 degrees, and 85 degrees.
There is a need for two extra angles: a 45-degree angle is used for video, ceramic, and anodized aluminum measures, whilst a 75-degree angle is utilized for paper measurements. It is essential to keep in mind that the shine is evaluated based on commonalities found in a variety of texts.

Applications
The amount of glitter and reflection that a surface has may be determined with the use of a Gloss Meter. Gloss maintains a constant level of light emission, and by aiming a meter at the surface, it can compute the amount of light that is reflected at the opposite angle. In order to do the computation, you are going to need to choose certain parameters, and these settings will vary depending on the surface that is being measured.

Angle measurement in Gloss Meter process:

The angles should be selected in accordance with the anticipated amount of glossiness, such as 60 degrees, which indicates a high level of glossiness that is higher than 70GU. If the result at 60 degrees is more than 70 GU, then the test setup should be changed to 20 degrees.
The typical scale for measuring gloss at 60V ranges from 10 to 70GU, with less than 10GU representing a very low amount of gloss. In the event that the result is lower than 10GU, the test configuration should be shifted to 85 degrees.

Factors Affecting the Selection of a Gloss Meter
Low Gloss of 85°
Improved accuracy of low gloss, in which the measuring of the surface is carried out by grazing it at an angle of 85 degrees. When the surface has to be measured at 60 degrees, which is 10 GU below, this angle may indicate when that needs to happen. It is able to measure the differences in the texture, and the angle has a larger point of measurement.

Medium Gloss of 60°
For calculating any of the gloss rates, the usual measuring angle of sixty degrees should be used. This angle, which is sixty degrees, serves as the default angle for all items. Why did you go with that line then? By using reciprocal angles of 85° or 20°, one may create ratios that are more stable, resulting in stronger gloss.

High Gloss of 20°
The angle of measurement at 20 degrees is considered to be sharp, and it has a tendency to provide improved resolution for surfaces with a high gloss. By using this geometry, the normal angle for surfaces that weigh 70 GU or more is determined to be 60 degrees. The surface’s appearance may be altered by haze effects, and the angle of 20 degrees is particularly susceptible to these effects. When measurements are taken at 20 degrees, the contrasting shine of the two samples can be observed much more clearly.
