The Relevant Test Standards of Switches for Household and Similar Fixed Electrical Installations Safety and Environment Test

As more and more household appliances enter our daily lives, and peoples frequently use these electrical products, it required household appliances not only need meet users using demand in design but also need comply electrical safety design and use environment demand.
Reference standard:
GB 16915.1 <switches for household and similar fixed electrical installations>, international standard is IEC60669-1. This standard required test items mainly recommend by following standards:
• Recommend by GB 4208—2008 Enclosure rating (IP code) (IEC 60529: 2001);
• Recommend by GB/T 5169.11—2006 Fire hazard test for electrical and electronic products Part 11: Glow wire/hot wire basic test method Glow wire flammability test method of finished product (IEC 60695-2-11:2000);

IP is the abbreviation of Ingress Protection. IP grade is the protection level for electrical equipment shell against the foreign body intrusion. It comes from the international electrical commission standard IEC 60529 which was also used as the national standard of America in 2004. In this standard, for the protection level of electrical equipment shell against the foreign body intrusion, the IP level format is IPXX. In which the XX are the two Arabia number. The first tag number indicates the protection level of contact protection and external object protection; the second tag number indicates the protection level of waterproof. For the more specific protection level can refer to the table below.

Protection levels normally use IP with the following two figures to express. The numbers used to specify the protection level. The first number indicates the range of the device against dust, or the extent of people against damage in sealed environment. ‘I‘ represent the level of prevention of the entry of solid foreign bodies, and the highest level is 6; the second number indicates the level of the device against water. P representative the level prevent from water, the highest level is 8 such as protection level of motor IP65, IP55 and so on.

The GB/T 5169.11—2006 Fire hazard test for electrical and electronic products Part 11: Glow wire/hot wire basic test method Glow wire flammability test method of finished product (IEC 60695-2-11: 2000), suitable for fire hazard tests of electrical and electronic products, household appliances and their materials, and simulate the thermal stress caused by heat sources such as hot components or overload resistance or ignition sources in a short time.

The glow wire tester is to simulate the parts of insulating materials or other solid combustible materials that are easy to spread flames inside the equipment, which may ignite due to the glow wire or hot components. Under certain conditions, such as fault current flowing through the wire, component overload and poor contact, some components will reach a certain temperature and cause the nearby parts to ignite.
