Scope
The IEC 60320-1:2007 standard specifies general requirements for appliance couplers intended for household and similar general purposes. These couplers are primarily used for connecting electrical appliances to the power supply and are designed to operate under normal usage conditions at voltages not exceeding 250 V and currents not exceeding 16 A. The standard outlines essential safety requirements, mechanical features, and performance criteria to ensure compatibility, reliability, and safety in the use of appliance couplers across different regions and applications.
This part of the standard includes provisions for construction, testing methods, and marking requirements to minimize risks such as electric shock, overheating, and fire. It addresses aspects such as temperature rise, mechanical strength, and resistance to moisture and environmental factors. Furthermore, the document ensures that appliance couplers meet international compatibility standards, facilitating their use across various appliances and countries while maintaining a high level of consumer safety.
